Runners, Repeaters and Strangers

(RRS) principle is an excellent strategy for production scheduling and supply chain management.

(RRS) principle is an excellent strategy for production scheduling and supply chain management. The RRS strategy could focus on WIP, FGs, RMs &/or the entire Supply Chain to drive business efficiency. Applying the drum(pacesetter), buffer, rope (DBR) principles of constraint management alongside RRS, efficiency is gained through reducing waste and unevenness in flow. As a result, customer service is improved by a more responsive and transparent scheduling system with reduced changeovers. RRS maximises flow and minimises inventories under the following categories:

A Runner is a product or product family having sufficient volume to justify dedicated facilities.
A Repeater is a product or product family with intermediate volume, where dedicated facilities are not justifiable.
A Stranger is a product or family with a low or intermittent volume.

Runners First 15% of total products / First 75% of total volume;
Repeaters Next 15% of total products / Next 15% of total volume;
Strangers Last 70% of total products / Last 10% of total volume;
